
Nate Furgason started playing jazz, blues and rock in bands with this father Percy Furgason at age 10. He studied privately for a number of years and worked in gigging bands all through his teens and early 20’s in Northern California and the San Francisco Bay Area in a variety of styles. He worked playing everything from big band and small group jazz, rock, pop, funk, country, bluegrass, Irish, folk and classical both with a symphony and in a chamber setting.
At 25 he decided to go to school for music and enrolled at California State University Chico where, in 2011 he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music. While in Chico he worked with all of the most popular bands in town including the Chico Area Music Award winning group, The Chico Jazz Collective lead by trumpet player and Professor of Music at California State University Chico, Rocky Winslow.
After graduating Nate decided to continue with his academic carrier. He earned his Master’s Degree in Jazz Studies Program from New York University in 2014. In the two years spent in New York, Mr. Furgason has worked and studied with some of the biggest names in jazz and music education including, Joe Lovano, Ron McClure, Mike Richmond, Brad Shepik, Jean-Michel Pilc, Martin Wind, Rich Perry, Wayne Krantz, Gil Goldstein, Rich Shemaria, Tony Moreno, Billy Drewes, Dave Schroeder and Dave Pietro.
After living and working in the Los Angeles area for 8 years he is now freshly relocated in Sacramento California where he is continuing to gain experience playing jazz, but also branching into new genres such as Folk, Americana, Celtic and Bluegrass with Madolin player and composer Bob Kirkland.
